28 Sep The WGC 100 Bowls Tournament Winner Is…
The WGC 100 Bowls tournament has been won by Welwyn and District Bowls Club. The winners trophy was presented by Robert France, Wills Trusts and Probate Solicitor at HRJ Foreman Laws Solicitor on Saturday 25 September 2021.
The Centenary League Competition was set up for 2020 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Welwyn Garden City. The event was delayed due to the pandemic but the teams were able to play once the restrictions had eased.
All matches were played as an inter-club tournament between Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Parkside, Shire Park and Welwyn & District Bowls Clubs. It was a great success and all triple mixed matches were played in the mornings with 9 club players on three rinks. Next year, North Mymms and Northaw & Cuffley Bowls Clubs hope to play in this new local annual competition. Each triple must contain at least one man and one women, therefore a minimum of 3 men and 3 women in each team of the 9 people playing in each club. In 2021, Welwyn and District Bowls Club had 19 club players that rotated on different match dates.
All matches in this new competition were played in a competitive and friendly spirit. Many thanks to the WGC Centenary Organisation for their support and a special thank you goes to both Eric Walsby and John Beech for their enthusiasm and encouragement.
At HRJ Foreman Laws Solicitors we were delighted to sponsor the event and present the winning trophy.
Congratulations to everyone that took part.
