The family law team at HRJ Foreman Laws Solicitors are supporting ‘Good Divorce Week 2022’. This year Good Divorce Week (28 Nov – 2 Dec) will highlight the crisis in the family courts and raise awareness about how families can resolve their disputes away from court.
The initiative is led by family law group Resolution. As members of Resolution, we support its ethos of taking a non-confrontational approach to family law issues. We believe this will produce better outcomes for separating families and their children.
Currently, the family courts are facing unprecedented backlogs and many families are waiting long periods to sort out finances and child arrangements after divorce. This can cause further anxiety to an already stressful situation. It is important that the government address the crisis in family courts, and support alternative ways to resolve the family disputes that can arise, during a divorce or separation.
Good Divorce Week seeks to raise more awareness of these alternatives.
Alternative forms of dispute resolution
Our qualified collaborative solicitor will use a ‘roundtable’ approach to resolve disputes. All negotiations are conducted in four-way face to face meetings with a view to achieving a fair settlement.
Alternatively, you may prefer to attend family mediation. Family mediation is a voluntary and confidential process that helps you to reach decisions and joint solutions through discussion with an independent mediator.
Another option is arbitration. During arbitration, an independent and legally qualified third party or member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators will make a legally binding decision on your case. We will work with you to prepare all the necessary documentation and represent your case to the Arbitrator. It can also be a more cost effective and timely option for resolving family disputes, when compared to making an application to court.
